Sau khi Microsoft cho ra bản I.E 8, Firefox 4 bản thử nghiệm đã được hãng Mozilla công bố không chính thức với tên mã là Minesfield, nhiều thay đổi mới được cải tiến trong phiên bản này, hoạt động trơn tru, nhanh và mạnh mẽ hơn nhưng chỉ là bản Alpha, giao diện người dùng cũng được thay đổi đáng kể
